how to make // arm strap phone case

Guess what... I finally did a video (reason why there was no post yesterday)! While it is not the best nor is it a Q&A I still think it turned out alright. I was not comfortable enough to do a Q&A but thought a sewing tutorial would be perfect! So I have made a arm strap phone case. I will say I got some inspiration for how the video was filmed from (www.lemontierres.com). She is pretty great, I will say. Go check her out.

a few crafting tips

Thought I would share a DIY post since I have not in awhile. I have been crafting lately and have made a few awesome things and thought I would share some tips for you all crafters out there.

1. Have a dedicated space.
I often find a big table works great, lay down some newspaper and you are ready to go.

2. Keep it organized.
All my craft supplies is organized in two little 3 drawer plastic containers. I bought even smaller containers to put inside of it and it works out great.

3. Buy a few new things.
Wow, I just told you to go out and buy more things. Yes, buy a few more things to make something new but combining with your old supplies as well.

4. Find inspiration.
I am a creative person but often times I see something and it sparks an idea. Pinterest is very helpful for this.

wallet tutuorial

    When I don't feel like spending money on something, I make it! That is what I did with this wallet. Often times I make things and they don't turn out perfect, so I trash it. Hence the reason I don't make a lot of things for me. But after two tries I got it right! I love how it turned out. So simple, unique, and clean. The only thing I would change, might be to put interfacing in it if you are using cotton fabric. The tutorial called for duck fabric, but just about any fabric will do. This tutorial is super easy, Even if you are just getting into sewing or have been sewing for years. It is pretty customizable, you could add straps, Velcro. make more card holders, whatever you feel like!

new sewing room decor

Update: 7/12

I have had a few new additions to my sewing area and love how it turned out. I will do a more in depth post later. 

As you might have seen in this post, my sewing decor has changed a little and love the new look. I thought I would share some pictures and tips for giving your space a new fresh look without spending a fortune.

I am loving the new floral look and I thought I would not only give my sewing space a new look but my room too. An updated room tour might come out soon too. Keep reading.

tips for you:

1. use what you have already // this little redo cost me $0

2. change out your prints // I love having pretty prints up and the best way to give it a new look is to change them up

3. have a theme // if you can't tell my theme is floral

makeup brush deco

    I saw this Pinterest pin and was inspired to do something like it. So, I tried to paint my brushes and that was a fail. So, my next attempt was washi tape. Success! I love the vintage look it has. I thought I would make my own tutorial as part of my summer series. This brush deco is super simple, all you have to do is wrap the washi tape around your brush and ba-bam!

What you will need:

-makeup brushes

-washi tape

-scissors

 

1. Start wrapping the washi tape around the brush and keep wrapping until the end.

diy coaster

            Mod Podge coasters is something I have been making for a while. My sister first introduced me to the craft a few years ago and ever since I have loved making them. They are super easy to make and make great gifts! The best part it only cost you less than $1. The most expensive part of this project are the felt sticky pads and Mod Podge but the coaster itself (blank white tile) is only around 17 cents. This post is #2 of the summer series. Yay. Enjoy lovelies.

Supplies:
-Mod Podge (here)
-White tile (something like this)
-Sticky felt pads (here)
-Patterned paper (or printed quote)  (print out)
-Paint brush (here)

1. Apply sticky pads on all four corners of tile.

 2. Apply Mod Podge all around the front of the tile.

3. Put your paper on top of the Mod Podge you just applied

4. Apply Mod Podge over paper and whole tile again. 

    

5. Let Mod Podge dry for 10-15 minutes and then reapply on the top 2-4 times. 

All done coaster below, and this is how it really was put to use, holding my happy hour slushy. Yum.

diy pocket tee

   
    Today, I would like to announce I will be starting a DIY summer series and this blog post is part one of six. This summer series will have anything form seashell bracelets to a pretty pocket tee. Through this series I hope to attract more readers and grow as a blog. The tutorial I will be showing you today is how to make a simple pocket tee. I have gotten a lot of compliments on this shirt so I thought I would make a tutorial. If you are a beginner sewer or beginner DIYer, then this is for you or even if you have sewn or DIYed for years, this is for you too! The tutorial is pretty simple it only has a few steps.

Supplies:
-solid color tee (something like this)
-fabric (fat quarter)
-scissors
-sewing machine
-pocket pattern

1. Gather materials (make sure to wash your tee and fabric).

2. Cut out pattern (here).

3. Pin on fabric and cut out (two prices).

4. Put right sides together.

5. Sew all sides but leave a small opening at the top (like below).

6. Turn back inside out.

7. Fold over your opening and sew down the top.

 

8. Pin on your shirt and sew down (make sure you only sew on the front of your shirt not back).

Tadaa, you have made your first pocket tee!

How to wear it:

This tee is great  with some shorts, jeans, a skirt, just about anything. The great part is it gives your old tee some new life!

shell decorating

    If you live near a beach and you are like me you collect lots of shells, thinking "oh these would be great for a project". Years later they are still sitting there, waiting. Well now you can do something to give them a little more life- decorate them (with sharpies or markers)! Now after you decorate them, then what do you do? You make pretty things, like necklaces, bracelets, rings, or put them on display. So below I am showing you some of my pretty shells and designs.

 I have to say the black and white shells will always be my favorite because they are classic and go with anything. Like seriously, anything.

 Below, are my colorful ones. I was nervous on how these would turn out because I am not very brave when it comes to decorating things with neon colors. But, I liked how they turned out because it is unique and different.

printable watercolor may calendar // 2014

    When I cannot find something online I like, I just make it myself! So, this is what I did for my May calendar. Normally, I use the Real Simple calendars, but I didn't really like how May's calendar looked. So, I searched online: nothing. I thought, why not make my own? It was a late night kind of project (the best kind) and it turned out well. Anyway, this how it turned out and I would like to share it with you. Download it here.

This calender includes all the days of the month and was made on card stock like paper so it might not have the same affect when you print it out. This calender is for personal use only.

baby bloomers & such.

    A couple weeks ago on our snow days I took up a few sewing projects including some little baby bloomers and a diaper cover. I loved how they turned out. On the yellow bloomer I used some of my Great-Grandmas lace; it is beautiful.  Not much to say so, I have attached pictures of them below. diy lip balm

    For you procrastinators, who need something for your valentine fast, I have something for you! Two Ingredient Lip Balm. It only takes you all of 10 minutes and since you made it yourself, it is even more special. As many of you may know coconut oil has become extremely popular. So, I have been looking all over for it and I finally found some at Wal-Mart. Coconut Oil is a little expensive but it is a multi-purposer. You can use it from everything from lotion to lip balm to a healthier version of oil in your recipes. Strange, right? But, I love it! Anyway, if you couldn't guess for the lip balm you will need, coconut oil or vaseline and lipstick. 

How To:

1. Take a forkful of coconut oil/Vaseline and mix it with a chunk of your lipstick.

2. Then, stick it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to soften up.

3. Mix together and pour into your container.

4. Freeze for 10-15 minutes and there you have it!

moments jar

     I am so excited to share with you my moments jar for 2014! I saw this on Pinterest and thought I would make my own. I used a mason jar and painted the lid. Then I cut up a bunch of pieces of paper to write on throughout the year. In this jar you can write happy, joyful, sad, and amazing moments. I am even going to write prayer requests and see what God has done with them at the end of the year. With everything I write down I will also write the date on the paper. I cannot wait to start this!
