better. simple. life.

I was inspired by this blog to live a more simple, stress-free life. I often find myself looking ahead instead of focusing on what is right in front of me. I need to enjoy the little moments and not worry about tomorrow. In order to help me do this, I wanted to put together 5 simple things to help me do this and maybe you can be inspired.

//  eat more whole foods
-Seriously, I feel so much more refreshed when I eat healthier and lots of fruits and veggies. Yumm..
//  less stuff
-Look, I used to take everything I mean like everything to the beach, but now I realized I only need a few things.
//  take pictures of the little moments (but also enjoy them)
-Like this sweet girl to the right. Oh my goodness, she is so precious. We walked around downtown together and she would wave to complete strangers saying 'HI!".

//  give grace & let it go
-This is so hard for me to do, because often I am
like why don't you understand?!? But, take a few
deep breaths and let it go *insert song here* :)
//  spend less time on electronics
-We all get sucked into electronics and I think this
is one of the big things for me. I think electronics
can be the most helpful thing in the world and
the most time-wasting thing EVER. Anyway, just
setting limits for myself is good.
//  take a few moments to reflect
-Just think abut how much you are blessed and take a moment to take it all in.

photography // lifestyle // magic tricks

One of my goals this month was to take lifestyle photographs and so that is what I did. I love how they turned out. I think I might branch out and do more of this kind of photography. The reason I love these photos so much is because it show life how it is not fake or posed, but how it actually is. These photographs are from Saturday when my sister and I were attempting to do magic tricks, key word "attempting". Ha. Anyway, here are how the photos turned out..enjoy. xoxo

makeup brush deco

I saw this Pinterest pin and was inspired to do something like it. So, I tried to paint my brushes and that was a fail. So, my next attempt was washi tape. Success! I love the vintage look it has. I thought I would make my own tutorial as part of my summer series. This brush deco is super simple, all you have to do is wrap the washi tape around your brush and ba-bam!

What you will need:
-makeup brushes
-washi tape

1. Start wrapping the washi tape around the brush and keep wrapping until the end.

There ya have it, I love the vintage, artsy look to them. Thanks for reading. xoxo

Since I forgot Friday's post, here it is....
Just a few little things I have been loving recently.

Now that I am not at school 8 hours a day I actually have more time to make healthy a breakfast and lunch. One breakfast I have been loving recently is strawberries, toast, and yogurt with granola. This summer I have actually been having breakfasts that keep me full, it has been great!
Once again, I have more free time and that means more babysitting. One of favorite ways to spend free time. You see that little cutie putting dishes away for me. Yep. It was 9 o'clock and I figured, if you are not going to go to bed well you are going to help me with the dishes, and she did and it was great. Ha. And the little girl below her well she is just drinking her milk from her cereal. Nothing much to tell there.

Summer has also enabled me to go surfing more too, yay! The waves are a hit and miss but hey when you get some waves it is a blast.

The other day I made homemade iced mint tea. Yum (hence the picture of the mint plant).

Now that it is summer, I have been able to have a much more flexible schedule and have been able to do a lot more things. Something that I have been doing recently is jogging to the river with me little doggy. Lets just say she is worn out my the time we are finished jogging. She pants the whole time while jogging with me and when we get home she just lays next to the food and water. Ha.

That is what has been going on recently around here; thanks for reading. xoxo.

the truth of the matter // why i changed my blog name

Some of you may have noticed that my blog name has changed. And yes, it has. No, it was not an accident.
For quite some time now I never really like the name "the girl in red lipstick".  I thought and I thought. And I figured why not change it, what is the worst that can happen? I understand I will lose some followers I will have to build back up again. That is okay. I am completely okay with that. My blog is for me (sounds, selfish but I write on my blog to share my life with you and to document life for me). I need to stop trying to get the approval of others and what they think and just enjoy my blog itself.
Changing my blog name does not mean I am going to be completely cut off from red lipstick, I still love how it looks on me! But, it just means I am no longer going to be calling my blog "the girl in red lipstick". It is a bitter sweet moment, but I am truly happy with my new blog name now.

I like this picture because it reminds me that when I am out at sea, I have to be brave and let it all go. I feel like this is what I am doing now,  I am just letting it all go, being brave, and just waiting to see what happens. xoxo lovelies.

I have put together some questions you might have because this is a huge change for my blog.

What does your blog name mean?

purely // living in the simplest purest forms of life
being // learning to be in the moment
her // learning more about me and who I am.

Why did you decide to do this?

I decided to change my blog name because I figured if I want to grow my blog more then I need to be satisfied with what the name is and I was not before.  I also wanted something a little more sophisticated and something I could grow with.

What about everyone who calls you "the girl in red lipstick"?

What about them? I am still a girl who wears red lipstick but my blog is no longer named after that and I don't really consider myself that anymore. Eventually, people will know me by my new blog name not old one.
Are you afraid of this change and what it might do to your blog?

I am so nervous even writing this post. I don't know how everyone is going to react. I have told very few people about this big change and it is taking a lot of courage to do this change. As I said I am writing on my blog for myself but I also want my readers to be happy. I know I can't please everyone and I am prepared for negative feedback on this big change. We will just have to wait and see how it goes.
Do you think you will be able to re-build your blog up again?

Honestly, my blog is not super popular in the first place so I don't have a lot to build back up. Though I would say building back up my bloglovin followers will be the hardest part.

Do you think you just did this out of the spur of the moment kind of decision?

No, I knew that eventually I would change my blog name to something a bit more suiting to me, but I just didn't know when. So why not now, before my blog gets bigger and will be harder to change names.

Thank you to Christina Tucker for helping me out with the name. xoxo

Thank you so much for reading. What are your thoughts on my big change? xo.

link love

baby + garden
I thought I would do something different and do some links I have been loving around the web. Just think only a few more days till the weekend for you guys who work or have school (I am on summer break, yay). To give you something to read this weekend I thought I could share some of my latest reads...

I give props to this mom...why she took all her kids toys away.

I am loving this blog.

Would you wear these pants...or palazzo pants at all?

This wedding, I love how nothing matches, but I am not to fond of the country style (love the vintage though).

These pictures of her kids are absolutely perfection.

These are so adorable..I have found my next DIY project..

One piece vintage swimsuits are so cute.

I am so making some of these this summer...yummy.

This goes back to the first one: Project Simplify 365

Ah..summer again...yummy watermelon.

This is so perfect. Just perfect.

And this. much cuteness.

my week in review

My week was full of up's and down's, happy and sad moments, and one "see ya later" moment. But, for the most part it was pretty good. Let's just say it all started off when I got my J.Crew shorts in the mail. YES. Normally I don't buy J.Crew clothes because they can get pricey but hey, they were on clearance (I had a promo code too) and I needed new shorts. So cute.
So cuteeee.
On with that, I can't hold this in, I GOT 150 FOLLOWERS on bloglovin! This is a big step for me as a blogger! As I am writing this post I can barley hold it in. I can't even deal. You should have seen the happy dance I did and I can't stop smiling. Oh my goodness. AHH.

Now that your done listening to me rant about how happy I am....

This week/weekend was filled with food + friends & family. Many pictures, laughter, food, selfies, and well most of all, fun. I cannot say enough about my friends and the adventures we have. It is really priceless. I love them.

Group photos are the bomb dignity.
I would have to say of the favorite things we love to do together would be eat, hey it is essential to your body so why not make it yummy? We were very cultured with our meals this week. We had Mexican, Japanese (sushi) and American (ice cream and a cookout) food.  All so yummy.
I love me some food.
Oh yeah..and well food. I went to target and bought a whole bunch of yummy healthy food, and other good all natural stuff. It all looks so pretty and taste so yummy. One of the biggest deals I found at Target was a dress marked down to $2.88 because it was an online item. It is the best when that happens. It also was the same with my jean dress.

Thanks for reading. xoxo

diy coaster

Mod Podge coasters is something I have been making for a while. My sister first introduced me to the craft a few years ago and ever since I have loved making them. They are super easy to make and make great gifts! The best part it only cost you less than $1. The most expensive part of this project are the felt sticky pads and Mod Podge but the coaster itself (blank white tile) is only around 17 cents. This post is #2 of the summer series. Yay. Enjoy lovelies.

-Mod Podge (here)
-White tile (something like this)
-Sticky felt pads (here)
-Patterned paper (or printed quote)  (print out)
-Paint brush (here)

1. Apply sticky pads on all four corners of tile.

 2. Apply Mod Podge all around the front of the tile.

3. Put your paper on top of the Mod Podge you just applied

4. Apply Mod Podge over paper and whole tile again.

5. Let Mod Podge dry for 10-15 minutes and then reapply on the top 2-4 times.

All done coaster below, and this is how it really was put to use, holding my happy hour slushy. Yum.

Thanks for reading. xo.

an almost gram-less summer.

Recently, I have been thinking about having a gram-less summer. Now, what do I mean by a gram-less summer? I mean that from the day I get out of school til the day I start again, I only go on Instagram once a month or not at all. I remember last summer some days when I would sit on Instagram and get jealous of everyone's summer plans, I was very easily sucked into "My life stinks, everyone else is doing this this and this and I am stuck at home". Clearly, this is not healthy or the case. I need to be grateful for what I have and stop wishing it away. If I take a look around at life, it is pretty darn amazing.
I am not saying Instagram is bad, but it is often a social media many people (including myself) get sucked into and can take us away from all the beautiful things in life. I often find when I took away social media for a week I found more things to do, I was more aware of my surroundings. I was more alive.
I wrote this post to see what you think, what do you think about social media, Instagram, and technology as a whole? Do you think I should go gram-less this summer?

photography // evening with us

As spring starts and summer approached our family likes to enjoy the sunshine and outdoors. So, that is what we did a few weekends ago. We had a fire (which I started myself, thank you), hotdogs, smores, and homemade salsa with chips. Yum. I am getting hungry right now thinking about it. But what is that suppose to mean, I am always hungry. Ha. I have to admit that you could bribe me with food. Back on topic, afterwards we enjoyed some soccer, bocce ball, and the the hammock. Of course I took pictures of this lovely evening and I would like to share them with you. Enjoy.

The fire which I started myself after my sister and I attempted everything from vegetable oil and Doritos, nothing worked, but I kept trying and before you knew it looked something like this. First fire ever built by Moriah.

Food, yes. Yum. Homemade salsa was the bomb, so were the hotdogs, and the smores, and well everything. Nom. Nom.

What does your family do as summer/spring approaches? xoxo lovelies.

This weekend was pretty fun for the most part, I was going to try and get some blog posts done and I did, but then they didn't turn out the way I wanted them to, so you will never see those posts.
