my year without fast food or soda.

In 2012, I made a new years resolutions to not drink soda or eat fast food (except Chick-fila). Why you might ask? Just because, I wanted to see what it was like. I learned many things throughout this experience.

Most of the time I didn't regret turning down soda or fast food because I knew there were healthier options.
But every once in a while it wasn't worth the troubles, but I kept my resolution. I found out that when I turned many fast food places down their where much healthier and more filling options to eat/drink. I will still try not to eat fast food this year, but if need be I will. Some fast food places it is not worth it, their food and their service is terrible. I am not trying to put these companies because some people this is all they can afford. I am just pointing out that there are many ways to eat healthy on a budget and cutting out fast food and soda is just one step toward it. It is okay every once in a while to treat yourself but not every single day or week. This is just my take on fast food and soda. What do you think?

what i believe and why

Why do you believe what you believe? A few months ago someone had stated a question that I thought I might need to answer. I thought about this and came to realize I didn't have an answer except "because it is what my parents believe". Now if you think about it, a lot of people would say that or "because I go to church". It took me a while to figure out an answer but God put me through many trials that pushed me to lean on him. And I came to realize God is my rock, my everything, and without him I would be nothing. God is my savior. You and I go through trials everyday and sometimes we are just so worn out. We all want someone to lean on, and God is who I lean on. So to sum it up I believe what I believe because God is my rock, I lean on him.

Now I would like to share with you what I believe. I believe that Jesus Christ is my savior not my religion. I think that there are so many definitions of a Christian and I don't really prefer to to call myself a Christian. What I believe is pretty simple, God is who I lean on, pray to, and trust in. He is who I live my life for. He is first. Now how I live my life since I am a Christ follower is a whole different blog post. Ha.  I wanted to keep this blog post pretty simple so I did. I would love to hear your feedback, so thanks for reading! Have a lovely day.

limiting social media

Do you find yourself on Instagram, clicking hashtag after hashtag and next thing you know it has been 20 minutes? I do. So I have deleted my Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook app for now. I will get them back eventually but for now I no longer have these certain apps. Why? Well let me tell you.

When I do this, I find myself paying more attention to other people, things, and the world around me. Yes, we all know there are so many things to do and plan, but these things will not last forever, memories and relationships will. Instagramming your breakfast at Panera (which I have done multiple times) is something that no one will remember a couple years from now or even days. We all know you want to stay up with the latest trends but really, no one is going to remember years from now. But if you really think about it how often are you on social media? Is it a lot or a little? There is a study showing that 23% of Facebook users check their account five or more times a day (source here). It may not be Facebook for you, it could be Instagram, Twitter, or something else. But, is sacrificing your relationships worth a few extra minutes checking up on everyone elseJust think about how much time your investing and you decide what you think is best. Maybe you should limit yourself or fast from social media for one week. At least think about how much time your investing and do if you really want your  daughter, friend, husband, sister to remember whether you were always on your phone or were you asking them about their day and spending time with them. What kind of legacy do you want to leave?  For those of you who are ready to just jump in, I have a challenge for you. See if you can go one week without checking or posting any of your social media (any thing from Facebook to Instagram but not Pinterest...haha). I am challenging myself to do this this upcoming week. I just want to see how much different my day is when I am not checking social media every second.  If you don't take away anything from this post then please just ask yourself one question, am I spending my time where I need to be, is this really important right now or can it wait? Thanks for reading. Have a lovely day. I would love to hear your feedback!

modesty 101 // from her point of view

Updated 1/6/14

Modesty is a dreaded subject for most people, but it doesn't have to be. So, here is my point of view and just a few tips.

Most of us all have trouble sometimes when it comes to dressing, because we want to be noticed or fit in. Then, we show off a little skin in hope for a little attention or acceptance. But honestly this is very bad. The issue is no longer how you dress, but why. What you might not realize is that how valuable you are and that you don't ever have to show off your body or get someones approval to feel you are worth something. YOU ARE VALUABLE. Now keep saying that over and over, write it on your mirror. YOU ARE VALUABLE. YOU ARE VALUABLE. You are a priceless and beautiful. Matthew 10:31 "So do not be afraid you are worth more than sparrows."

So the question now is, why should we dress modest? Why? Let me tell you why.

Number 1- You are valuable and you need to respect your body. If your shorts are too tight and you have a really low-cut shirt, do you think that people are looking at you and saying, "wow, it is nice to see a modest fashionable young women" or are they saying "for christmas santa is getting you some real clothes". Honestly which do you want to be?

Number 2- You will feel more confident walking into work or school, knowing that you're not cutting it close to the dress code. You will be RESPECTED. You don't have to worry about pulling your skirt down every single second or pulling your shirt up. People will see beyond your body and they will notice the inside.

Number 3- In the long run you will be so thankful you dressed modestly. This one is a little hard to explain but 20 years from now do you want to look back and have bad memories about being the girl who was dying for attention or do you want to be the confident young lady who had a bright future ahead of her?  Some of you may think that it is silly, but dressing your body modestly could bring the best people into your life or even your dream job.

Now for 2 tips to live by on dressing modestly.

Number 1- the B rule. Your breast or butt should not be clearly visible. Don't wear shorts that barely cover your butt or a shirt that is very low cut.

Number 2- If you are debating whether to wear (xyz) or not, DON'T WEAR IT. Inside you know you shouldn't be wearing it, so don't. If you have trouble with this, get rid of the piece of clothing that you question.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post and remember YOU ARE VALUABLE. Matthew 10:31 "So do not be afraid you are worth more than sparrows." I would love to hear your feedback, thanks for reading. xoxo.

How to Thrift Store Shop and Clearance Rack Shop

I will admit. I shop at thrift stores and I used to hate it. But let's admit it, do we all have $30 to spend on one shirt? Nope. So today I would like to share a few tips.

Clearance Rack Shopping-

1. Ask yourself if you were paying full price, would you buy it? Everyone in a while its okay to just buy things because its $3. But honestly ask yourself this every time.

2. Have a price limit.

3. If you see a good piece of clothing, that you know will last a while. Go ahead and buy it FULL PRICE. Don't be afraid, but be mindful. Remember first impressions are important. Always look classy.

Thrift Store Shopping-

1. Find a good clean thrift shop. I found one near where I live. It's very nice. This makes your shopping trip more enjoyable. Also Platos Closet is an amazing consignment shop, those are great too! Below is a picture.

2. This is a biggie. Know what your looking for. The thrift store has so much junk but also some great stuff. I have found sweater from, J.Crew, Old Navy, The Loft, and even New York & Company! If you found a Pinterest Project and you need a white shirt, Thrift Store. So this way if it ends up being a PINTERST FAIL. No big deal. :)

3. Buy things that can be paired with many things. It's okay to have shirts that make there own statement, but it's great to have different colored cardgains and scarves.   But also it's so cheap normally that this doesn't always apply.

4. Have fun and Be Creative. If you go into any store with a two-year old I don't want to do this attitude, it's gonna be dreadful. Just have fun!

14 random acts of kindness

Random Acts of Kindness are becoming a very popular thing and the ideas are endless on Pinterest. I was inspired by the Birthday Project to do Random Acts of Kindness. Check out their website here.  So I did a few and here is what I came up with....

1. Wrote lovely notes to my sisters

2. Gave a nice note to our UPS (he is practically here everyday) guy.

3. Donated my nicer clothes instead of giving them to a consignment shop.

4. And who could forget a note to our lovely mail lady.

5. Cleaned up for my mom.

6. Left laundry detergent at the Laundromat.

7. Donated school supplies.

8. Gave banana bread to the firefighters.

9. Gave banana bread to the police men.

10. Gave two little sisters matching dress and skirt.

11. Had my birthday money donated to Samaritans Purse.

12. Gave lollipops to some awesome little kids.

13. Donated books to a local school.

14. Was Kind.

I am so blessed, and why spend one more day focused on me, me, me, why not focus it on others, even if its as simple as leaving someone a nice note. Thanks for reading!
